Politics consists of "...social relations involving authority or power...".
(Wickepedia) Sept. 29, 2008.
So, it's not just the spectacular election in the U.S. or the less stellar one in Canada but questions get to be asked like: "why Can. before Amer"? (by two weeks) and "will the results influence Amer. voters"? How about "what the hell? - Palin"? How about "are we going to live through four more years of Conservatism"? My favourite is "this is like a bad Disney movie" (Matt Damon, Sept, 2008). I don't feel it's necessary to talk about the financial crisis and the implication because everyone knows that's a bad situation. Like the elephant in the room has finally pooped on the carpet!!
No, it's not just about "government" politics. The definition (Wickepedia) is that 'politics consists of social relations involving authority and 'power'. How many social relations involve authority and power?
Parenting is the original one
Marriage and/or intimate relationship
Gender/ Race/ Age
Teachers/ Elders
Friends/ family
The process of being "institutionalized" through school, from kindergarten to PhD.
Being involved in banking/ insurance/ purchasing or selling.
The politics of health
The politics of work
The politics of your child's soccer team!!
Getting a speeding ticket
It's endless......
I don't even know if i have a point here, it's just that i feel immersed in it and overwhelmed at times. I have to remember what questions really need to be asked: "is it helpful to others?" and "are you being honest" or "do you know what your rights are?".
Some people think that an institution is impenetrable. Not true. Know your rights and call the right person and never give up.
